Tattoos, Class of 2011 UPDATE!
1Aug2011 - Holy crap, my 2011 calculus roster
met my challenge! So here's the final edition of the math tattoo magazine
with a big congratulations to those who made it happen. This time, the
tattoo didn't have to be Photoshopped!

Math
Tattoos, Class of 2011 edition
19Jul2010 - My Class of 2010 calculus students
were awesome, but they didn’t win the tattoo challenge. Oh alright,
I’ll go ahead and issue the challenge to the upcoming class as well.
Let’s begin the hype.

Math
Tattoos
25Jan2010 - I don't have any tattoos and never
planned to get any. However, I recently promised my AP Calculus AB students
that I will get a small math-related tattoo if they perform at or above
a specified level on the AP exam. This magazine cover hypes the challenge
even further.

Black
Silk
25Nov2008 - When a couple of my colleagues were
raving over Folgers' new "Black Silk" coffee blend, I decided
that would be my adult film name if I ever decide to swing my career in
that direction.

The
'Fro Has Got To Go
06Oct2007 - For a United Way fundraiser, I grew
my hair out and offered a student the opportunity to cut it. Here's the
promotional poster.

|
|
Gusher
at Lusher
14Dec2006 - Promotional poster hyping the epic
feud between English teacher Depp and myself. We tried to convince the
students that we were really going to fight on pay-per-view. Video of
our final rap battle is posted on other video/art
page.

Political
Product #4: Condi Floss
02Oct2004 - I generally refrain from teasing
peoples' physical characteristics, but I couldn't resist the gaping gorge.

Political
Product #3: Rumsfield lotion
01Oct2004 - I don't know the context of the original
photo, but Rummy looks like a natural skin care spokesman.

Political
Product #2: Cheney Beans
19Sep2004 - If Cheney were a food, what would
he be? Here's my response.

Product #1: Bush Ketchup
12Sep2004 - During my Lockheed Martin days, a
colleague bought a case of "W" Ketchup when some Bush-backers
decided this was an effective way to express their anti-Kerry (and Heinz)
preference in the run-up to the 2004 presidential election. He proudly
displayed a bottle in his cubicle and sold some to like-minded colleagues.
I bought a giant bottle of ketchup myself and made my own label.

It's
Ya Birfday
02Feb2004 - Belated b-day card to myself. All about
me of course.

Poster #5: Wrong Tool
22Jun2004 - Ended the series with what turned
out to be my favorite. Based on a comment from a product design professor
in college. I made most of my models for class with hand tools in my dorm
room rather than use the machine shop under the supervision of snooty
grad students. Upon seeing one of my less successful models, the professor
told me that I was "the master of using the wrong tool for the job."

Workplace
Poster #4: Gruntled
02May2004 - Supposed to be a play on words such
as "Disgruntled" that are rendered meaningless without the "Dis"
prefix. The
original version turned out much more menacing than I intended, so I lightened
it up.

Workplace
Poster #3: What Else
10Apr2004 - As the angst over my career direction
was reaching a climax, I read a book that insinuated that part of the
process of finding what one wants to do in life involves defining what
one doesn't want to do.

Poster #2: Act Now
26Mar2004 - Interest rates for housing were reaching
an all time low when I realized the same could be said for my career.

Poster #1: Not An Engineer
19Jul2002 - Wanting to practice my Illustrator
skills, I made this motivational (?) poster to hang in my cubicle during
my waning time at Lockheed Martin. Almost two years later I would continue
a series of posters with this theme.

You
Choose The 'Do
27Mar2002 - Other than haircuts, I had never
altered the natural style of my hair in any way. Just for fun I hung this
poster outside my cubicle in my last program at Lockheed Martin and had
colleagues vote on which new style I should get. Honoring their choice,
I wore "Checkmate" to work for a few days. In the months to
come I tried out a couple of the others too.

Happy
Holidays
10Dec2000 - A family card that stars me, me,
me, and me. The childhood pics are from approximate ages 4 and 6.

Xenon
19May2000 - Having learned most of my graphics
skills from playing around on my own, I finally took a class for Illustrator.
This is a final project for a magazine cover that turned out pretty well.

Repression
23Jan2000 - Phony fragrance ad. I had just gotten
my first digital camera and used this project to enjoy the wonderful luxury
of not having to wait to get film developed or worry about wasted pictures.

Don
White Collage
27Dec1999 - Usually I prefer to keep my graphics
projects frivilous, but as my grandfather's health was failing I wanted
to honor him and my grandmother with this collage.

Patrick
+ Lil' Kim
17Dec1999 - I met Patrick through volunteering
with Child Advocates
of Silicon Valley. He had a major infatuation with rapper Lil' Kim
so I presented a framed print of this to him for his 18th birthday, much
to his delight. Looking back I'm a little embarrassed by my judgment,
but considering that this was one of my earlier Photoshop projects, I'm
still impressed with how well I merged the five different photos.

Season's
Greetings
27Nov1999 - My first attempt at an original Photoshopped
greeting card. I still remember how painfully slow it was searching for
background images over the web using dial-up.
